About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking an Operational Accounting Associate in the Recovery Accounting department. This role is aligned to the Claims and Recovery functional organization, which supports enterprise-wide processes related to financial loss mitigation and recovery. The team oversees end-to-end activities including exception accounting, deposit loss processing, restitution payment execution, and fraud-related recovery efforts. Additionally, the organization enables litigation support, documentation fulfillment, and identity theft resolution capabilities to ensure a comprehensive and controlled approach to resolving customer and financial loss events. This function plays a critical role in safeguarding the bank’s financial interests by driving accurate, timely, and compliant recovery operations across the enterprise.
In this role, you will:
- Perform operational accounting activities related to recovery payment validations and exception research
- Provide operational accounting support to internal business groups or operations departments to ensure recovery payments are posted with accuracy and validations are completed
- Perform/Approve customer account maintenance and general ledger transactions
- Prepare and review account reconciliations and certifications
- Perform customer account maintenance duties
- Evaluate the operational accounting transactions and maintenance of operational accounting controls
- Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals
Required Qualifications:
- 6+ months of Operational Accounting experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience reviewing account reconciliations, including validating variance analysis and exception resolution
- Working knowledge of general ledger (GL) transactions, including journal entries and financial posting processes
- Experience with operational accounting controls and adherence to compliance or audit requirements (e.g., SOX)
- Exposure to high-volume transaction processing environments, such as payments, claims, or recovery operations
- Knowledge of banking and payment processes, including ACH, wires, check processing, and settlement activities
- Experience supporting fraud, claims, dispute, or recovery-related processes within a financial services environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis for validation and reporting
- Experience using core banking or accounting systems (e.g., Hogan, CACS, eTran, or similar platforms)
- Ability to analyze large data sets to identify discrepancies, trends, and exceptions
- Experience with account maintenance, adjustments, and transaction processing within customer or deposit systems
- Experience supporting process improvements or identifying efficiency opportunities

- Position offers a hybrid work schedule, requiring a minimum of one week in the office and one week remote, based at one of the locations listed below.
