Position Description
Student Health Services at Texas Tech University is the on-campus medical care clinic exclusively for Texas Tech students. The mission of Student Health Services is to proudly provide compassionate, high-quality and accessible healthcare to Texas Tech students. This primary care clinic is an exciting place to work. It is a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where patients always come first. This is a senior position on the Clinical Assistant career track and provides patient care management to an assigned clinic in the areas of clerical and clinical duties.

Required Qualifications
A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent; graduation from an approved certified program for assistants in the area of required specialty. Certification by an approved accredited certifying agency in the specialty in which the particular work will be performed; a minimum of two years of directly related experience.

Major/Essential Functions
- Welcomes patients warmly with compassion and enthusiasm.
- Listens carefully to patient needs presented face to face or over the telephone and communicates clear and accurate information in response to all members of the health care team.
- Implements teaching plans for patients and their families with well-defined health learning needs.
- Reports data, identifies and reports alterations in patient responses to assist in the identification of problems and formulation of goals/ outcomes and patient-centered plans of care in collaboration with patients, their families, and the interdisciplinary health care team.
- Works collaboratively with other health care team members to ensure patient needs are met and clinic operations are efficient.
- Communicates with patients via telephone per clinic protocols.
- Prepares and operates necessary equipment and instruments for examination, treatments and procedures.
- Assists with or performs exams and procedures and documents intervention in EMR.
- Takes and records accurate vital signs and measurements.
- Communicates patient data using EMR to support decision-making to improve patient care.
- Maintains inventory of supplies in examination and procedure rooms.
- Participates in the identification of patient needs for referral to resources and facilitating continuity of care.
- Assists in determining the physical and mental health status, needs, and preferences of culturally, ethnically, and socially diverse patients and their families.
- Assists the Nursing Team Leader with the development and implementation of clinic goals and objectives, to facilitate improved patient outcomes.
- Manages refill requests and administers medications to patients following policies and procedures for medication management.
- Completes Annual Nursing Core Competency Training and Skills Fair.
- Participates in emergency preparedness drills in the department.
- Attends nursing staff meetings.
Occasional Duties
- Provides nursing support to the community-based Family Medicine Clinic when resources allow.
- Helps with outreach opportunities for the TTU campus.
Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a hospital, ambulatory clinic, or community-based setting.
- CPR/BLS Certified.
- Electronic Health Records (EHR) experience.
- Experience in collecting specimens for point-of-care testing.
- Experience in patient assessment and intake.
- Experience with medication administration and reconciliation.
