Payroll Analyst

We are looking for a Payroll Analyst to join a fast-moving global payroll team in San Francisco, California on a Contract basis. This long-term contract role begins with an initial 3-month term and supports payroll activity across a complex international workforce where urgent questions, exceptions, and shifting priorities are common. The position is well suited to someone who enjoys solving problems, communicating clearly with stakeholders, and working across multiple time zones in a high-volume environment.

Responsibilities:

• Manage incoming payroll questions, service requests, and escalations by assessing urgency, setting priorities, and driving issues through resolution.

• Investigate payroll discrepancies and unusual cases, including off-cycle payments and other exceptions that fall outside standard processing routines.

• Examine payroll output and reporting to identify errors, trends, and items requiring follow-up with internal partners or external providers.

• Assist with gross-to-net pay reviews, pension-related considerations, and other payroll calculations across international populations.

• Provide clear, step-by-step guidance to employees, consultants, and business stakeholders on payroll matters and required actions.

• Partner with teams across finance, HR, and other functions to resolve urgent payroll issues affecting workers in multiple countries.

• Support global payroll operations spanning several countries, with a strong focus on inquiry management and issue handling during non-processing periods.

• Work across multiple payroll platforms and workflow tools, including systems such as Workday, ADP Workforce Now, global payroll solutions, and Jira, as needed.

Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of payroll experience, including support for payroll operations in three or more countries.

• Prior experience working in a start-up, tech/saas and/or fintech/crypto strongly preferred

• Hands-on knowledge of payroll practices, with experience handling high-volume inquiries, exceptions, and issue resolution.

• Familiarity with payroll systems such as ADP Workforce Now and the ability to learn additional platforms quickly.

• Understanding of full-cycle payroll concepts, payroll reporting, and payment review processes for large employee populations.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

• Excellent organization, follow-up, and prioritization skills when managing frequent interruptions and changing deadlines.

• Clear written and verbal communication skills with a customer-focused approach to stakeholder support.

• Flexibility to work a Monday through Friday schedule with shifting hours as business needs require.
