Sr. Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support key accounting operations for a Contract position based in Overland Park, Kansas. This role will play an important part in maintaining accurate financial records, managing close activities, and ensuring balance sheet accounts are properly supported. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, sound judgment, and a disciplined approach to reconciliation and reporting.

Responsibilities:
• Lead monthly closing activities by preparing schedules, reviewing account activity, and helping ensure timely completion of financial reporting tasks.
• Prepare and record journal entries with supporting documentation to maintain accurate and complete accounting records.
• Oversee general ledger activity, investigate discrepancies, and resolve posting issues to preserve data integrity.
• Perform detailed account reconciliations and follow up on outstanding items to keep balances current and properly supported.
• Complete bank reconciliations on a recurring basis, identify variances, and research exceptions through resolution.
• Analyze financial information for accuracy and consistency, escalating unusual trends or issues when needed.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to gather documentation, clarify transactions, and support day-to-day accounting needs.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience working in a senior-level accounting role with responsibility for core general ledger functions.
• Strong background in month-end close processes, including preparation of supporting schedules and review of account activity.
• Proficiency in creating and posting journal entries with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Hands-on experience performing account reconciliations and resolving reconciling items in a timely manner.
• Practical knowledge of bank reconciliation processes and cash-related accounting activities.
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial controls within a detail-oriented business environment.
• Ability to manage deadlines, prioritize multiple assignments, and work independently in a Contract role.
