Accounting Manager/Supervisor

We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager/Supervisor to lead financial operations for our civil engineering organization in Midlothian, Illinois. This role is ideal for a finance leader who can combine strong technical accounting knowledge with leadership, business insight, and a commitment to accuracy. You will support strategic planning, maintain reliable financial reporting, and partner with operational leaders to strengthen performance across the business.

Responsibilities:

• Direct daily accounting activities across payables, receivables, payroll, billing, and general ledger functions to maintain efficient and accurate financial operations.

• Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, interpret results, and deliver meaningful analysis to support leadership decision-making and long-term planning.

• Build and oversee annual budgets and periodic forecasts in partnership with department leaders, ensuring financial plans support company objectives.

• Review spending trends, budget variances, and cost drivers, then recommend practical actions that improve financial performance and identify savings opportunities.

• Maintain compliant financial records and prepare required filings, including annual tax documentation and overhead rate reporting aligned with applicable industry regulations.

• Establish and strengthen internal controls that protect company assets, reduce risk exposure, and promote accountability throughout accounting processes.

• Evaluate financial risk areas and present mitigation strategies that support operational stability and regulatory compliance.

• Collaborate with executives, project managers, and engineering leaders to track project financials, monitor profitability, and provide insight at the department level.

• Lead, coach, and develop accounting staff while fostering a high standard of accuracy, timeliness, and continuous improvement within the team.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline.
• At least 7 years of progressive accounting or financial management experience, preferably within civil engineering, construction, or a similar project-based industry.
• Certification such as CPA or CMA is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience overseeing budgeting, forecasting, month-end close, and full general ledger activities.
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, account reconciliation, journal entries, and audit support.
• Proficiency with accounting platforms such as QuickBooks, Ajera, or comparable systems, along with advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Ability to analyze financial data, solve complex problems, and communicate recommendations clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.

Compensation

$100,000.00-$150,000.00 Yearly
