Sr. Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support capital project accounting for a Local Government sector client. This Contract position will focus on maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing project-related spending activity, and delivering clear reporting tied to capital expenditures. The ideal candidate brings strong government accounting experience, works effectively with cross-functional stakeholders, and ensures spending remains aligned with approved budgets.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain the general ledger for capital projects and record financial activity with accuracy and consistency.

• Prepare and post journal entries while supporting timely month-end close activities.

• Reconcile accounts and bank activity to ensure reliable balances and complete financial records.

• Track capital project expenditures, compare spending against authorized budgets, and highlight variances for review.

• Produce financial reports related to project activity, funding usage, and overall capital spending status.

• Partner with department leaders and project stakeholders to gather financial details and support budget accountability.

• Monitor transactions closely and follow up on outstanding items to help keep projects within established spending limits.

• Use Excel and Oracle to analyze data, maintain documentation, and support ongoing accounting operations.

Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of accounting experience, including senior-level responsibilities.
• Prior accounting experience within a government or public sector environment.
• Strong background in general ledger management, journal entries, and month-end close processes.
• Experience performing account reconciliations and bank reconciliations with a high level of accuracy.
• Knowledge of capital project or capital expenditure tracking, monitoring, and reporting.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
• Experience using Oracle for accounting or financial management activities.
• Ability to collaborate with multiple departments and consistently follow through on financial items.

Compensation

$32.00-$40.00 Hourly
