Staff Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for a company based in New Jersey. This Long-term Contract position is well suited for someone who can manage daily financial activities, maintain accurate records, and contribute to a timely month-end close. The ideal candidate brings hands-on accounting experience and a solid understanding of reconciliations, ledger maintenance, and tax-related tasks.

Responsibilities:
• Perform bank account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Maintain and update the general ledger by preparing and recording routine and adjusting journal entries.
• Process accounts payable activities, including invoice review, coding, and payment support.
• Assist with month-end closing procedures by preparing schedules, supporting documentation, and account analysis.
• Support corporate and sales tax activities, including data gathering and preparation assistance for filings and returns.
• Review financial records for accuracy and completeness while helping strengthen day-to-day accounting controls.

Qualifications:

• At least 2 years of accounting experience in a staff accountant or similar role.
• Practical experience with bank reconciliations, general ledger activity, accounts payable, and month-end close responsibilities.
• Knowledge of journal entry preparation and account analysis.
• Familiarity with corporate tax, sales tax, and support for corporate tax return processes.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
• Proficiency with standard accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.

Compensation

$24.00-$27.00 Hourly
