Systems Engineer I

Robert Half has a client seeking a Systems Engineer to support, maintain, and enhance our Microsoft server infrastructure with a strong emphasis on Azure services and PowerShell automation. This role is ideal for a hands-on systems professional who has experience managing Windows Server environments, administering hybrid cloud infrastructure, and developing automation solutions to improve operational efficiency, consistency, and scalability. This will be a hybrid opportunity that will be onsite for initial training.

SUMMARY:

• Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows Server environments across development, test, and production systems.
• Support and manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and core Microsoft infrastructure services.
• Design, implement, and support Azure-based solutions, including hybrid infrastructure and cloud-hosted workloads.
• Manage and optimize Azure services such as:
• Azure Virtual Machines
• Azure Storage
• Azure Virtual Network
• Azure Backup
• Azure Monitor
• Azure Update Management
• Microsoft Entra ID / Azure Active Directory
• Create, maintain, and enhance PowerShell scripts to automate server provisioning, patching, reporting, monitoring, configuration management, and administrative tasks.
• Support patch management, OS upgrades, system hardening, and vulnerability remediation for Windows-based systems.
• Monitor server health, capacity, performance, and availability; respond to incidents and implement preventive measures.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of experience supporting Windows Server infrastructure in an enterprise environment.
• Hands-on experience administering Microsoft Azure services in a production setting.
• Strong scripting and automation experience with PowerShell.

Experience with:

• Windows Server 2016/2019/2022
• Active Directory and Group Policy
• DNS, DHCP, and file/print services
• VMware and/or Hyper-V virtualization
• Azure AD / Microsoft Entra ID
• Azure networking and virtual machines
• Familiarity with server monitoring, patching, backup technologies, and security best practices.
• Experience troubleshooting infrastructure issues across server, network, and cloud environments.
• Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in hybrid on-premises/Azure environments.
• Knowledge of Azure Automation, ARM templates, Bicep, or Infrastructure as Code tools.
• Experience with Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Endpoint Manager, or related endpoint/cloud management tools.
• Familiarity with security and compliance standards, vulnerability management, and identity governance.
• Experience with CI/CD, automation workflows, or DevOps-oriented infrastructure support.
• Microsoft certifications such as:
• Azure Administrator Associate
• Azure Solutions Architect
• Windows Server or related Microsoft certifications
