Position: Training Manager

Location: Watertown, SD (on-site position)


About the Role:

As a Training Manager at Spartronics, you'll play a pivotal role serving as the site-level owner for all training-related activities.  This role is responsible for the planning, execution, administration, and continuous improvement of site training programs, ensuring alignment with corporate training standards, site operational requirements, and applicable regulatory or customer requirements.


What a typical day looks like:

Reporting to the site Human Resources Manager, with a dotted-line relationship to the Corporate Training Manager, the Training Manager is accountable for the effective execution and overall effectiveness of training at the site and serves as a key escalation point for training-related risks, gaps, or noncompliance. The role works closely with site leadership, department managers, and subject matter experts to support employee onboarding, skill development, compliance training, and workforce readiness.

This role combines hands-on delivery of technical and compliance training with ownership of the site training system, partnering with Operations, Quality, and Human Resources to establish priorities, ensure alignment, and support consistent execution of training expectations and workforce readiness standards across the site. Where applicable, the Training Manager provides direct functional leadership to site-level training support personnel and promotes consistent, audit-ready execution of training activities.

 

Responsibilities

· Serve as the site-level authority and system owner for all training activities, ensuring alignment with corporate standards, operational needs, and applicable regulatory or customer requirements.

· Plan, coordinate, and continuously improve site training programs, including onboarding, job-specific skills training, compliance training, and ongoing development.

· Partner with site leadership, Human Resources, department managers, and subject matter experts to identify training needs, conduct regular training needs analyses, prioritize training initiatives, and align training requirements with process changes, customer requirements, and compliance needs.

· Partner with Operations, Quality, and Engineering to assess training impacts resulting from process changes, engineering changes (ECOs), new equipment, or customer flow-downs, and coordinate updates or retraining as needed to maintain workforce readiness.

· Coordinate and support new hire onboarding activities with Human Resources, ensuring training requirements are scheduled, completed, documented, and aligned with time-to-proficiency expectations.

· Own and administer the site Learning Management System (LMS), including curriculum setup, user management, training assignments, tracking, and reporting.

· Maintain accurate, audit-ready training records and support internal audits, customer visits, and regulatory reviews by providing training documentation and subject matter expertise.

· Own and maintain training-related skills matrices, certification tracking, and qualification status to support cross-training, audit readiness, and workforce flexibility.

· Develop, maintain, and control training curriculum and materials (e.g., presentations, job aids), and coordinate and deliver instructor-led, on-the-job, and other training using effective instructional methods appropriate to the audience and content.

· Develop and deliver training content in accordance with established corporate training frameworks, templates, branding guidelines, and quality standards to ensure consistent, professional, and effective training materials.

· Evaluate training effectiveness using feedback, assessments, and performance indicators, and implement improvements as needed.

· Provide direct or functional leadership, coaching, and development support to other training support personnel, where applicable, to ensure consistent execution of site training activities.

· Obtain, maintain, and apply IPC Certified Instructor (CIT) certification(s), where required by site operations, customer requirement, or business need.

· Ensure training materials accurately reflect and support approved procedures, policies, and process documentation, translating technical content into clear, audience-appropriate training while maintaining alignment with established requirements.

· Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:


 Required Qualifications: 

· High school diploma or GED.

· Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in electronics manufacturing or a related production environment with demonstrated progression in responsibility.

· Experience supporting or contributing to employee training, onboarding, or skill development activities in an operational or manufacturing environment, including on-the-job or peer-based training.

· Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain IPC Certified Instructor (CIT) certification(s), where required by site operations, customer requirements, or business needs.

· Demonstrated hands-on electronics manufacturing capability (e.g., soldering and workmanship proficiency) or the ability to develop proficiency to meet instructor-level certification requirements, where applicable.

· Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt effectively in a changing environment.

· Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS), including training assignments, tracking, and reporting, or the ability to quickly develop proficiency in LMS administration, tracking, and reporting.

· Demonstrated ability to influence and partner cross-functionally in a matrixed organization.


Preferred Qualifications: 

· Associate degree in a technical, manufacturing, training, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· 5 or more years of experience in electronics manufacturing or related production environments.

· Experience leading or coordinating formal training activities or programs in a manufacturing environment.

· Current IPC Certified Instructor (CIT) certification in one or more applicable IPC standards.

· Experience working in regulated, customer-driven, or certification-based manufacturing environments.

· Experience partnering with Human Resources, Operations, Quality, or site leadership.

· Prior functional leadership or informal supervisory experience.
