We at Northrop Grumman Missions Systems are seeking a skilled and self-initiating Systems Engineer with a strong understanding of requirements development, test case development, and verification and validation of those requirements. The ideal candidate should be proficient with requirements technical baseline management via IBM Rational DOORS, act as the technical lead and point of contact to the Chief Engineer and customer. The ideal candidate should self-initiate assignments, determine and pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results, develop technological ideas and guides their development to a mature solution/product, serve as the team’s or organization’s spokesperson on advanced technical solutions, and act as an advisor to management and customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with a broad customer base to identify unique requirements, flow the requirements into design documentation, and work with a diverse team to build and test those requirements.

  • Work on complex technical problems and provide solutions to meet the customer’s and program’s needs.

  • Present to customers and program leadership on the capabilities of current products, performance analyses, design information, and requirements verification methods.

  • Generate, review, and manage multiple requirements sets that cover all aspects of both performance and nonperformance including mechanical interfaces, electrical interfaces, data requirements, environmental requirements, and reliability.

  • Awareness and responsiveness to contract milestones and deliverables.

  • Lead an Agile team to ensure the designs are sufficient to meet the system requirements.

  • Work with various Agile teams to ensure all requirements are verified through inspection, analysis, demonstration, or test often by providing test and data reduction scripts.

  • Provide test directions to ensure production tests and troubleshooting tests are executed correctly and resulting data conforms to requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 12+ years of engineering experience OR Master's Science degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 10+ years of engineering experience OR PhD degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 8+ years of engineering experience

  • Demonstrated success with:

    • Technical baseline management

    • Writing and updating DOORS requirements

    • Decomposing and deriving requirements based on customer specifications

  • Experience in System Engineering activities such as:

    • Software requirements development

    • Requirements development

    • Test Case development

    • Verification and Validation, i.e. experience running tests and documenting results

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including:

    • Demonstrated experience presenting to internal and external stakeholders

    • Demonstrated experience communicating technical information, e.g. requirements updates, test plans, integration test plans, etc.

  • Demonstrated Experience leading test investigations and debugging efforts

  • Demonstrated success guiding technical concepts from development to mature solution to implementation

  • Demonstrated success serving as team’s spokesperson on advanced technical solutions

  • Demonstrated success acting as an advisor to management and customers

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams as lead Systems Engineer

  • U.S. Citizenship is required

  • Current/Active U.S. Government Secret clearance is required

  • Ability to work onsite full-time at Woodland Hills, CA

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the following interfaces:

    • MIL-STD-1553

    • Experience with ARINC-429

    • Experience with Ethernet

  • Experience leading an Agile engineering team

  • Experience with JIRA

  • Leading Systems Engineering teams through complex technical activities and incorporation of solutions on large, complex systems

  • Demonstrated Lab, software, and system integration experience

  • Demonstrated experience with Model Based Systems Engineering and Cameo modeling (or equivalent)

  • Experience with ClearQuest / ClearCase

Primary Level Salary Range: $177,000.00 - $265,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
