The University of Pittsburgh is establishing a state-of-the-art, multi-omics facility to support research and clinical translational programs in multiple OMICS disciplines including genomic sequencing, metagenomics, and RNA sequencing. We are seeking a capable technician with some experience in molecular biology techniques. 1 Perform clinical testing in accordance with established SOPs. Process all clinical, QC and PT specimens through clinical workflow. Demonstrate high-level problem-solving skills and analytical abilities to successfully perform laboratory testing. 2 Accurately record relevant data and values in case folders and internal databases. 3 Maintain proficiency in appropriate Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). Use barcode scanning to verify chain-of-custody and track sample progression through multiple analytical workflows. 4 Maintain expertise in or knowledge of molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to: nucleic acid isolation, nucleic acid quantitation, PCR/RT-PCR/qPCR, Sanger sequencing, LOH, methylation analysis, MassARRAY MALDI-TOF, next-generation sequencing, etc. 5 Appropriately use automated and/or liquid handling machines for clinical testing. 6 Process samples meticulously to avoid cross-contamination. Meet established turn-around-time deadlines for clinical testing. 7 Operate, perform routine maintenance on, and calibrate all laboratory equipment as required. Identify problems with instrumentation, methodology, specimens, and/or supplies and follow-up according to established protocols. 8 Identify critical, abnormal and/or unacceptable results and follow-up according to established protocol. Document all corrective action and follow-up with lead and/or supervisor. 9 Effectively communicate with other laboratory members including lab leadership. Maintain track of technical and professional development, including but not limited to attendance at seminars/webinars and participation in educational programs and activities. 10 Adhere to established laboratory and hospital policies and good clinical laboratory practice in areas of procedures, quality control, quality assurance and safety and compliance. 11 Perform high-volume sample triage and accessioning according to CAP/CLIA SOPs, ensuring accurate barcoding and traceability within LIMS. 12 Handle a variety of biofluids (blood, plasma, urine, saliva, swabs, stool) and tissue-derived samples using validated SOPs for molecular extraction and processing in a high throughput manner.

Physical Effort
Sitting and standing for long periods, walking around campus to attend meetings. Bending and lifting to put away supplies. Lifting to 30 pounds. Reading small print on tubes, vials and documents. Working in a lab under standard lighting.
