About the Role:
This is a rare opportunity to shape the narrative of one of the nation's premier health sciences institutions. As a Health Sciences writer within Pitt’s Office of Strategic Communications, Health Sciences, you will serve as a storyteller and strategist for six distinguished schools — the School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, School of Pharmacy, School of Public Health, School of Nursing and School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.
You will uncover and craft compelling stories about the researchers, educators, students and clinicians who are advancing scientific discoveries and transforming health care on a global scale. Your work will illuminate the powerful synergies across the Pitt Health Sciences schools, celebrating the interdisciplinary collaboration that defines this institution.
What You'll Do:
You will produce a wide range of content—short and long form—across multiple channels, potentially including websites, social media, alumni magazines, press releases and thought leadership pieces. You’ll identify stories that align with and advance the strategic goals of our growing communications department, working closely with stakeholders across all six schools.

Job Summary:
Develops compelling digital and print content that advances the Health Sciences strategic narrative. Ensure consistent messaging and upholds University brand and editorial standards. This full-time role requires working in-person on Pitt’s Oakland campus at least three days a week.

Develops complex web and print content and marketing. Acts as strategic contributor for communications team and creates marketing materials for marketing team. Participates in meetings designed for content planning and development. Ensures consistent messaging and maintains University brand and style.
Essential Functions
• Provides high-level content and marketing development for web and print media including, but not limited to, writing, editing, research, web graphics and templates, social media, signs and banners, emails, reports, templates, and other print and communications collateral.
• Serves as a strategic contributor for communications team in content creation, ensuring design and branding consistency.
• Supports marketing team in producing and editing high-quality marketing materials, including promotions, advertising, and publicity, ensuring high-quality content.
• Maintains and updates applicable databases in a timely and accurate manner.
• Supports events and promotions, including vendor contact, interfacing with clients and designers as needed, developing materials, and milestone deliverables.
• Works collaboratively and effectively with subject matter experts (SMEs), creative teams, and University departments to ensure high-quality content is delivered. Modifies messaging according to the target audience, communication goals, and communication channels employed.
• Provides guidance to other staff as directed.
• Participates in and contributes to unit-specific events and meetings to support and spearhead message planning and content development in alignment with the University’s goals and priorities.

Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Hiring Range: $53,617 - $76,000 annually
