As a Senior Principal Design Engineer – Level 4 located in Promontory, UT, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Technical Lead: Manage the work of other design engineers to support production needs.
Own the design of solid rocket motor nozzles.
Develop creative solutions that balance technical, cost, and schedule requirements.
This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Get work done through other design engineers through task assignments and mentoring
Be the focal point of all technical decisions
Coordinate with project, chief, and analysis engineers to define work scope
Provide accurate, on-time drawings and specifications for complex nozzle designs
Conduct and lead trade studies
Define, develop, and qualify design changes
Provide technical guidance in the design, test, and production of a solid rocket motor nozzle
Interact with development teams (Manufacturing, Quality, Safety, Analysis, Materials, and Test)
Develop and present technical content for design reviews with internal and external customers
Perform anomaly resolution and conduct special studies
Participate in postfire evaluations of nozzle hardware
Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 8 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 6 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 4 years of professional experience.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
Strong skills in 3D modeling, mechanical drawings, and GD&T (NX software)
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous demonstration of technical leadership, mentoring and task management
Previous nozzle design, rocket motor design, or aerospace design experience
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Understanding of manufacturing and inspection processes
Design or analysis experience with bolted joints, metal, composite, and bonded assemblies
Tolerance analysis
Broad understanding of mechanical design, structural/thermal analysis and material behavior
