The Manager, CRNA Provides leadership and management oversight for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) while maintaining clinical practice responsibilities as required. Ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality anesthesia care to patients of all ages and supports the development, coordination, and execution of strategically aligned, system-wide anesthesia care processes. Facilitates effective two-way communication and resolution of operational issues to support service line goals, performance benchmarks, and patient care outcomes.

The Manager, CRNA

  • Provides leadership, direction, coaching, and mentorship to CRNA staff. Oversees employee selection, onboarding, performance management, and professional development in accordance with Carilion employment practices and HR policies.
  • Organizes and oversees daily anesthesia operations, including staffing models, scheduling, workflow coordination, and resource allocation to ensure safe, efficient, and fiscally responsible care delivery.
  • Participates in budget planning and manages departmental resources within established financial targets.
  • Monitors quality, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives. Collects and reviews data, identifies trends, and participates in the development and implementation of action plans.
  • Maintains clinical competence and fulfills clinical responsibilities as appropriate to role and departmental needs. Ensures staff maintain required competencies and compliance with clinical standards.
  • Develops anesthesia plans of care in coordination with anesthesiologists or attending physicians for patients of all ages.
  • Administers and adjusts anesthetic care based on patient response, clinical condition, and procedural requirements.
  • Documents anesthesia care accurately and completely in the medical record.
  • Ensures patient safety throughout anesthesia care and during transitions of care to other qualified healthcare providers.
  • Leads or participates in departmental projects and initiatives to support service line objectives, quality outcomes, and operational efficiency.
  • Exercises managerial authority to resolve routine operational and staffing issues, escalating complex or system-level concerns to leadership as appropriate.

What We Require:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required or 4 years of relevant experience.


Experience: 3 years of experience in anesthesia or a closely related clinical discipline, with demonstrated leadership or supervisory responsibility.


Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Current certification or recertification as an active, practicing Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) through the AANA Council on Certification and Recertification. Life Support: Current AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required.


Other Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to lead clinical teams, manage complex operations, and make independent decisions using advanced clinical judgment and leadership authority. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required. Ability to function effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced healthcare environment.

Compensation Range:

$210,392.00 - $336,585.60

Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
