POSITION SUMMARY:

The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily shipping operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient distribution of products. This role leads a team of shipping personnel, coordinates with logistics and warehouse functions, and ensures compliance with company policies, safety standards, and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

  • Supervise daily shipping activities, including order picking verification, packing, labeling, and dispatch.
  • Ensure on-time shipment of orders while meeting quality and accuracy standards.
  • Coordinate with production, warehouse, and customer service teams to prioritize shipments and resolve issues.
  • Monitor workflow to maximize efficiency and meet performance targets.
  • Assists in other areas as required by Supervisor.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, train, and develop shipping personnel.
  • Schedule staff to meet operational needs and manage overtime as required.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Enforce company policies, procedures, and safety protocols.

Logistics Coordination

  • Schedule shipments with carriers and negotiate rates when applicable.
  • Ensure proper documentation for domestic and international shipments (e.g., bills of lading, customs paperwork).
  • Track shipments and resolve delays, discrepancies, or damages.
  • Maintain strong relationships with freight carriers and third-party logistics providers.

Inventory & Accuracy Control

  • Ensure shipping accuracy through verification processes.
  • Coordinate cycle counts and inventory adjustments with warehouse teams.
  • Investigate and resolve shipping discrepancies or customer complaints.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company safety regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Conduct safety training and enforce best practices.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery, shipping accuracy, and cost per shipment.
  • Prepare reports for management on shipping performance and issues.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain, or related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of shipping, logistics, or warehouse experience.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of supervisory or leadership experience.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Knowledge of shipping systems, WMS/ERP software, and carrier platforms.
  • Understanding of domestic and international shipping procedures.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

Work Environment

  • Warehouse/manufacturing setting with exposure to moving equipment and varying temperatures.
  • May require lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • M-F; evenings or weekends as needed depending on operational demands.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing, walking, and lifting throughout the shift.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks) preferred.
