Environmental Specialist II
Job Summary:
The Environmental Specialist II is responsible for supporting and implementing environmental compliance programs under a Base Operations Support (BOS) contract. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, local, and installation-specific environmental regulations and policies. The Environmental Specialist II assists in managing environmental programs, conducting inspections, preparing reports, coordinating corrective actions, and supporting sustainability initiatives to ensure mission readiness and environmental stewardship.
The position works closely with the QC/ES&H Manager, government representatives, regulatory agencies, and BOS operations personnel to maintain compliance with environmental requirements and permit conditions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Support implementation and administration of environmental compliance programs in accordance with contract requirements and applicable regulations.
Conduct routine environmental inspections and audits of facilities, work sites, and contractor operations.
Monitor compliance with federal, state, local, and installation environmental regulations.
Assist with management of environmental programs, including:
Solid Waste Management
Stormwater Management
Spill Prevention and Response
Air Quality Compliance
Water Quality Compliance
Pollution Prevention (P2)
Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
Sustainability and Recycling Programs
Perform environmental assessments and document findings.
Investigate environmental incidents, spills, releases, and non-compliance issues.
Track corrective actions and ensure deficiencies are resolved within required timeframes.
Maintain environmental records, permits, inspection reports, manifests, and compliance documentation.
Assist with preparation of regulatory reports and permit applications.
Coordinate waste collection, storage, transportation, and disposal activities.
Conduct employee environmental awareness and compliance training.
Support environmental audits conducted by government agencies and regulatory organizations.
Review contractor and subcontractor activities for environmental compliance.
Monitor environmental performance metrics and prepare monthly and quarterly reports.
Assist with implementation of sustainability and energy conservation initiatives.
Participate in emergency response planning and environmental contingency exercises.
Coordinate with installation environmental personnel and regulatory agencies as required.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Natural Resources, or related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted.
Minimum of 3-5 years of environmental compliance experience.
