About the Role
The Journeyman Diesel Technician is responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, complex repairs, and overseeing high-level service work on heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
This role is designed for highly experienced technicians who operate independently, handle the most complex repairs, and support the development of other technicians within the shop.
What You’ll Do
Advanced Diagnostics & Repairs
- Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical issues
- Perform major repairs on engines, transmissions, and drivetrain systems
- Troubleshoot advanced electrical, aftertreatment, and performance systems
Maintenance & Service
- Oversee and perform advanced preventative maintenance
- Inspect vehicles and ensure work meets quality and safety standards
- Complete high-level repairs across brake, suspension, HVAC, and related systems
Electrical & Technical Systems
- Diagnose and repair advanced electrical systems and network communications
- Utilize diagnostic software and tools to support complex troubleshooting
Shop Leadership & Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical resource for other technicians
- Mentor apprentice and technician-level employees
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Accurately document repairs and ensure quality of completed work
- Follow all shop procedures and safety standards
What You Bring
- 12 years of mechanical experience on heavy-duty trucks or equipment
- High school diploma or GED
- Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and lead technical repairs
- Required tool set
Preferred Experience
- OEM certifications or advanced technical training
- Extensive experience with diagnostic systems and electronic controls
- Experience performing DOT inspections and complex fault diagnosis
Work Environment
This is a hands-on shop role that includes:
- Working with heavy equipment and mechanical systems
- Frequent standing, lifting 50+ pounds, and physical activity
- Exposure to noise, heat, and shop conditions
