Job Description Summary
The University of South Alabama’s Biological Resources department is seeking to hire a Laboratory Animal Technician I. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions

These are the job duties required of the position.

Essential Functions
  • Provides routine animal husbandry in accordance with written and verbal instructions.
  • Feeds and waters animals daily per procedures.
  • Changes and washes soiled cages.
  • Cleans and repairs feed troughs, pens, cages, and other animal care facilities.
  • Observes animals for signs of illness or injury and reports abnormalities to supervisor.
  • Observes and records animal room environment and conditions.
  • Collects and labels fluid or stool samples for diagnostic evaluation.
  • Prepares and maintains routine records such as animal count, identification, weight, medication, and food consumption.
  • Under supervision, provides minor technical assistance and handles and manipulates animals according to instructions.
  • Unloads and stores feed and bedding materials.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
  • Related duties as required.
