The Division of General Internal Medicine is seeking a Data Analyst to participate in research projects that aim to explore strategies to optimize
prescribing and medication decisions for patients in the hospital and at home. The Data Analyst will work primarily with Dr. Timothy Anderson and
be a core staff member of the Prescribing Wisely Lab, with additional membership in the Caring for Complex Chronic Conditions Research Center, and Center for Pharmaceutical Policy and Prescribing (CP3). The Data Analyst will be responsible for developing analytic datasets from
administrative healthcare databases, such as UPMC electronic health records, the Veterans Health Affairs Clinical Data Warehouse, Medicare and Medicaid claims, and existing NIH funded prospective cohort datasets. This includes translating written research protocols to computer
programming code, implementing the code, and conducting data quality assurance checks to verify the research protocols were applied.

• Implement the code to develop analytic datasets from raw data from administrative healthcare databases
• Conduct data quality assurance checks to verify the research protocols were applied correctly.
• Code translation and implementation are expected to be carried out with minimal supervision from the PI.
• Efficient computer programming practices are required to minimize computational resource utilization.
• Excellent documentation is required to facilitate reproducible research.
• Must be capable of multi-tasking between several research projects.
• Must be able to work within deadlines.
• Excellent business communication skills and organization are required.
• Write analytic components of methods and results sections.
• Design summary tables, graphs, and graphical abstracts.
• Develop clinical databases in preparation for data collection projects.
• Write clearly and concisely
• Create tables and illustrations in a manner that allows for quick modifications
• Knowledge of or ability to learn REDCap is imperative for clinical database preparation.
• Fluency with Stata, SAS, R, or SQL is preferred.
Job Summary
Organizes and facilitates data collection and conducts statistical analysis of datasets while working across multiple, simultaneous projects. Applies scientific methodology and statistical analyses to implement appropriate methodologies for complex data management and statistical analyses. Facilitates algorithm development, software development, and result interpretation. Assists with grant preparations and staff training. Manipulates datasets and clean data and facilitates quality control procedures to ensure data accuracy.
Essential Functions
Requires the ability to visualize a computer screen, to work with computer hardware and software, to communicate verbally and in writing, and to use a phone. The candidate must have strong working knowledge of English.
