Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary:

The Villanova Institute for Research and Scholarship is seeking a detail-oriented, data-literate graduate student to support the Director on two major projects:
  • Development of a department report on Villanova’s internal faculty research funding programs focused on historical trends and institutional impact. The Graduate Assistant will compile, organize, clean, analyze, and summarize data for the report.
  • Implementation of a University-wide system for coordinating information about external research funding opportunities. The Graduate Assistant will identify, analyze, track, and create online postings for specified types of funding opportunities.

The position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in data management and analysis, institutional research, and collaborative authorship. It offers practical exposure to the professions of research development, research administration, and higher education administration.
This is a hybrid role with scheduling flexibility. In-person work is expected at least one day/per week.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Compile, organize, clean, and help analyze historical data on Villanova’s internal faculty research funding programs
  • Create data tables, summaries, and reporting materials
  • Document grant-related data capture and reporting processes to improve efficiency of annual data reporting
  • Review, interpret, and track basic requirements for specified external funding opportunities and document processes to establish standard workflow
  • Create and monitor funding opportunity postings and application forms in grant competition software (InfoReady)
  • Other administrative operations as needed.
Requirements:
  • Current Villanova Master’s student
  • Experience compiling, cleaning, and organizing data
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including using formulas, sorting/filtering, and basic analysis
  • Ability to quickly understand and master new software platforms
  • Strong organizational skills and problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to deal discretely with confidential information
  • Ability to work independently after training while following guidance and direction
Additional Information:
Prefer candidates with an understanding of or interest in how a university organizes and manages its research enterprise. Should be a motivated worker dedicated to seeing tasks completed from start to finish.
