Pipefitter - METTS
RSi is looking to fill a Pipefitter position to support our NASA customer on the Marshall Engineering Technicians and Trades Support contract (METTS). The Pipefitter is responsible for laying out work and measuring to locate position of pipe from drawings or other written specifications, cutting various sizes of pipe to correct lengths with chisel and hammer, oxyacetylene torch or pipe-cutting machines, threading pipe with stocks and dies.
This position is part of the bargaining unit represented in the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union No. 760 and is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the North Alabama Building Trades Council.
Summary of duties include but are not limited to:
- Installs or repairs water, steam, gas or other types of pipe and pipefitting.
- Responsible for bending pipe by hand-driven or power-driven machines, assembling pipe with couplings and fastening pipe to hangers, making standard shop computations relating to pressures, flow and size of pipe required; and making standard tests to determine whether finished pipes meet specifications.
Required Minimum Education/Experience/Certifications:
- Rounded training and experience acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
- Must be able to communicate with peers, supervisors and customers
- Must be able to work independently or in a team
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions
Work Environment:
- Indoor and outdoor working environments
- Test areas, test stands, laboratories, chambers, machine shops
- Cold and hot weather environments
Physical Environment/Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation):
- Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and working in heights and confined spaces
- Lifting up to 40 lbs
- Must use proper PPE for all tasks
Other: This position is subject to a pre-employment background check. Must meet eligibility for a Public Trust background investigation for government issues credentials and IT access/applicants must be able to pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements.
