PDS Optical is looking for a Department Lead to join our dedicated team at our Optical Lab.

The department lead is responsible for providing guidance to production, trainees and current employees. Leads must begin first by demonstrating, then by observing and finally, by monitoring the work of departmental employees. This person is considered to be the next in charge following the supervisor and will assist co-workers in reaching individual and company goals.

This is a 2nd shift full-time position with normal days being Monday through Friday, from 2:45pm-11:15pm.

Optical experience is preferred but not required.


The pay range for this position will be based off relevant experience.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to:

  • Must have thorough knowledge of the entire department and can perform all duties in each position within the department in order to lead all as a team or group.
  • Allocate and prioritize materials, equipment, and personnel according to production schedules.
  • Check in with the Supervisor or Manager at the beginning of the shift and actively participate in team meetings, providing input on breakage, workflow, and production issues.
  • Must have leadership qualities in order to directly supervise employees.
  • Train and promote teamwork among employees, as well as provide employees with regular feedback to the supervisor and manager as it relates to their performance, progress and skills.
  • Train new hires on department processes, equipment, and quality standards.
  • Must be able to ensure smooth workflow, monitor progress of the department and resolve routine workflow problems.
  • Assist in all departmental functions and fill in for various positions as required.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of and educate department employees on all safety regulations and requirements to provide safe work areas.
