If you're passionate about making transportation accessible and equitable for all, join Metro's Access team as an Assessment Specialist. As an Assessment Specialist you will play a critical role in ensuring individuals with disabilities receive fair and accurate eligibility assessments for ADA paratransit services.
In this highly collaborative and community-facing role, you'll guide applicants through the eligibility, assessment, and appeals process while partnering with healthcare providors, agencies, and regional transit organizations. As a subject matter expert, you'll help uphold ADA compliance standards, deliver exceptional customer service, and contribute to a more inclusive transportation system across the Greater Cincinnati region.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Facilitate the application and assessment process for new and recertifying Access applicants/customers whose eligibility has or is expiring.
  • Communicate with applicants, agencies, care providers, and organizations that serve people with disabilities concerning eligibility, assessment, and appeals process, as well as provide information on how Access and other Metro services operate.
  • Ensure that documentation is documented properly and maintained at the utmost confidentiality.
  • Conduct assessments for new customer eligibility and current customer's recertification in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Ensure that all ADA related functions are within the guidelines of the law. Ensure that ADA assessments are conducted consistently, accurately, and fairly.
  • Initiate and maintain accurate, thorough records of assessments and make recommendations regarding eligibility for applicants. Up/Download photos of applicants and document eligibility results electronically. Ensure that eligibility assessments and other documents (written, electronic, etc.) are issued.
  • Conduct assessments in accordance with established procedures for regional partners such as Butler County, the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky and others. Act as liaison between agencies and offer subject matter guidance as needed.
  • Remain in compliance with legal requirements as it relates to the ADA and transportation.
  • Stay apprised of regulatory changes related to transportation services for customers with disabilities, including changes that may be relevant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, Department of Transportation, Department of Justice, etc.
  • Maintain databases for Access
  • Schedule daily Access assessments and orientations as needed. May also include scheduling transportation as requested by applicants.
  • Facilitate eligibility and appeals process, including correspondence, record keeping, scheduling and other meeting arrangements; serve asrecorder for the appeals hearings.
  • Educate the public concerning Metro and Access, including the eligibility, assessment, and appeals process.
  • Provide information on Metro Services via usage of telephone, US mail, electronic mail and in person.
  • Attend community events such as health fairs, information presentations, etc.; provide classroom instruction to agencies, schools and other interested parties.
  • Participate and/or lead community outreach and education events.
  • Update customer preferences as requested (such as address changes, standing reservations, mobility aids, etc.).
  • Geo-code addresses/locations in Trapeze system.
  • Assist in the development of strategies to meet or exceed organizational and departmental performance goals/objectives.
  • Initiate and maintain positive community relations, particularly with service providers such as Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services. Participate in community outreach events and coordinate events that are mutually beneficial for agencies and SORTA.
  • Partner with internal/external task forces, committees, and project groups relevant to paratransit transportation in the Greater Cincinnati Region.
  • Model exemplary internal and external customer service
  • Perform daily office operations (phones, supplies, filing, copying, mail, etc.)

Education
  • Associates Degree (two year college or university)

Experience

  • Two to four years related experience

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Computer Skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite. Experience in Trapeze (PASS, CERT and COM) is helpful.

  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
