| Job Summary | The University of Kentucky Police Department is seeking a highly organized and detail oriented professional to serve as an Assistant Budget Officer supporting the daily financial operations of a complex public safety organization. The department’s operations span multiple mission areas, including law enforcement, emergency communications, security services, emergency management, and enterprise security systems, all working together to promote a safe and secure campus environment for students, faculty, staff, patients, and visitors. This position plays an essential role in ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and integrity of departmental financial activities across a diverse portfolio of funding sources, including institutional funds, grants, restricted funds, and externally funded programs. The Assistant Budget Officer supports budget planning, monitoring, and reporting processes while assisting in the administration of financial operations such as purchasing, payroll, procurement, travel, and revenue management in accordance with university and regulatory requirements. The role contributes to the development and execution of annual and multi-year budgets and supports forecasting efforts in collaboration with departmental leadership to ensure resources are aligned with strategic priorities. Responsibilities include performing detailed reconciliations, analyzing spending trends and financial performance, and developing reports and dashboards to inform data driven decision-making. The position also assists with financial oversight of grant funded and disaster related programs, including compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements. Working closely with leadership and staff, the Assistant Budget Officer helps coordinate financial processes across operational units, supports adherence to university policies, and identifies opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness. The position also provides guidance and support to departmental personnel on fiscal procedures, contributes to training and onboarding, and delivers responsive customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
