What You Will Do
- The primary purpose of the Group Fitness Instructor position is to provide safe, engaging, and inclusive fitness instruction to students and Student Fitness Center (SFC) members of varying fitness levels and abilities.
- The instructor is responsible for leading group fitness classes that promote overall health, wellness, and physical activity while creating a positive and motivating environment that encourages participant success, retention, and community engagement.
- Through quality instruction, proper exercise guidance, and individualized modifications, students and SFC members benefit by improving their physical fitness, learning safe exercise techniques, reducing stress, building confidence, and developing lifelong healthy habits in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
-A nationally recognized Group Fitness Instructor certification (such as ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM, ISSA, or equivalent) is required or must be obtained within a specified timeframe.
-Current CPR/AED certification is also required and must be maintained throughout employment
Preferred Qualifications
-Certifications specialized to various course types (i.e. Yoga, Barre, Pilates)
-Additional experience in leading group exercise formats such as strength training, cardio conditioning, HIIT, cycling, yoga, or dance fitness is highly desirable.
This position requires a strong foundational knowledge of health, fitness, and exercise principles, including proper exercise form, technique, and injury prevention. The Group Fitness Instructor must be able to effectively design and lead safe, engaging, and inclusive fitness classes for participants of varying fitness levels and abilities. Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills are essential to motivate participants and create a positive group exercise environment. The ability to provide clear instruction, demonstrate exercises, and offer modifications or progressions is required.
