General Summary:

Responsible for overseeing all procurement activities for mechanical construction projects, ensuring materials and equipment are sourced on time, within budget and to specification. This role manages vendor relationships, negotiates pricing, coordinates with project teams and drives cost saving strategies across the organization.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Strategic Procurement – Develop and execute purchasing strategies that support project schedules, cost targets, and company objectives.
  • Vendor Management – Identify, quantify and maintain relationships with suppliers of piping, mechanical equipment, sheet metal, valves, controls and specialty items.
  •  Negotiating & Contracting – Negotiating pricing, terms, warranties, and delivery schedules to maximize value and reduce risk.
  • Project Coordination – Collaborate closely with project managers, estimators, and field supervisors to accurately forecast material needs and ensure purchasing aligns seamlessly with project timelines.
  • Inventory Oversight – Efficiently manage warehouse stock levels, purchased equipment tracking ad implement just-in-time delivery strategies to optimize material flow.
  • Cost Control – Monitor material budgets rigorously, track variances meticulously, and implement proactive cost saving initiatives. Monitors material cost fluctuations due to global market conditions to alert groups to potential price increases, product shortages, shipping concerns, tariffs or issues that could affect the supply chain. 
  • Submittals and Documentation – Oversee submittal packages, equipment documentation, material certifications and ensure strict compliance with project specifications.
  • Logistics and Coordination – Schedule deliveries, coordinate freight logistics, and promptly resolve shipping issues to prevent fabrication or jobsite delays.
  • Process Improvement – Standardize purchasing workflows, evaluate procurement software options, and streamline internal processes for enhanced efficiency.
  • Team Leadership – Supervise buyers or purchasing coordinators, providing comprehensive training and effective performance management.
  • Purchasing Oversight - Monitors purchasing reports to measure financial results status of various projects. Monitors quarterly purchasing volume from wholesale suppliers and manufacturers to make the best financial opportunities for the company. 
Requirements:

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of mechanical contracting, including HVAC systems, plumbing, piping and sheet metal materials.
  • Understanding of procurement cycles, vendor qualification, and logistics.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency with ERP or construction management software (e.g., COINS, Procore, ACC ).
  • 5-10 years of purchasing or supply chain, construction management, business or equivalent experience.

Description of physical working environment:

  • Normal office environment, typical warehouse environment, outside meetings with clients, conferences, and some observation in construction site.
  • Works in normal office environment and makes frequent client visits requiring driving personal vehicle. When in the office, regularly works from a sitting position with a computer. Repetitive typing and computer use required. Regular bending, twisting, and light lifting is common.
