This person will serve as an authority on Avionics Integration of Mission Computers, Emitter Detection Systems, and Aircraft Cockpit Systems and Regularly takes a leadership role in providing insight and knowledge transfer to others on internal and external technical solutions to solve complex problems.
This person shall perform the following:
- Provide Avionics Integration Production engineering support for the integration of aircraft cockpit systems and components including Flight Management Systems (FMS), Flight Management Computers (FMCs), Primary Flight Displays (PFDs), Control Display Units (CDUs), Helmet Mounted Devices (HMD), Terrain Avoidance and Warning Systems (TAWS), Crew Alerting System (CAS), Moving Maps, and other various avionics systems.
- Assist in the preparation and support the verification of aircraft avionics and Prime Mission Equipment installations and aircraft certification documents.
- Provides Critical Skills to teams with internal and external knowledge of the technical industry and how it impacts the company. Serves as an expert for Avionics Mission Computers, EW Detection Systems, and Flight Management Integration.
- As a Staff Engineer can serve as an organization spokesperson on multiple advanced projects and/or programs that have a direct impact on the sector (both technical and non-technical). Acts as advisor to management, co-workers and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications.
- Provide support for the development of system safety documents.
- Approves, Reviews, and Creates aircraft system schematics to support air vehicle wiring diagrams.
- Requirements development and analysis and supporting trade studies.
- Manage suppliers, review and analysis of supplier design data, definition of functional test requirements including acceptance, qualification, and system integration, and support test execution.
- Informal and formal testing of subsystem requirements in lab, troubleshooting hardware in the lab.
- Supporting flight test activities and post flight data analysis, and resolution of flight test anomalies.
A successful Staff Engineer has good leadership skills and understands the scope of the work and the impact of the work on other teams. The Staff Engineer consistently brings up concerns, issues and risk and holds team to a high level of technical rigor
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 12 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 10 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience.
Experience with integration of COTS electronics into military systems
Experience in PC computer architecture and associated elements: single board computers, networking components, Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA), and Network Attached Storage (NAS) solutions
Experience with system modeling and requirements management tools (Cameo, DOORS, Rhapsody, etc.), developing/maturing requirements, and tracing requirements through various levels
Must have an active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance that is in-scope (granted or renewed within the last 6 years).
Ability to obtain Top Secret clearance and have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP) clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with embedded systems, Unix or Linux operating systems, board support packages, messaging middleware, networking standards/protocols (e.g. 1553, 1394, Ethernet)
- Current/active Special Program Access (SAP)
- Experience with MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429 and Ethernet communication protocols
- Agile Scrum and Jira Experience
- An active Top Secret clearance
- Experience with developing supplier documentation, performance based specifications, and statements of work
- Trade studies, documenting subsystem architectures, analyzing performance, and evaluating Technology Readiness Level (TRL) with regard to supplier current and future products offerings
- Building supplier evaluation criteria and experience in conducting technical evaluations, documenting results and selection
- Experience with authentication and data encryption methods, to include securing communications at either the data-link or network layer
