Payroll Coordinator / Payroll Support Specialist
San Antonio / Schertz, TX
Robert Half is partnering with a dynamic organization in the San Antonio/Schertz area to hire a detail-oriented Payroll Coordinator. This role is ideal for a payroll professional who enjoys working cross-functionally, ensuring compliance, and supporting accurate and timely payroll processing in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review payroll data for multiple weekly and bi-weekly payroll cycles
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
- Review payroll data submissions and identify discrepancies or issues
- Analyze timekeeping data (Kronos or similar systems) for accuracy and completeness
- Partner with HR and internal teams to ensure proper employee setup and data integrity in HRIS systems
- Coordinate with multiple locations to gather payroll-related information
- Investigate unusual payroll activity and resolve discrepancies
- Maintain strong internal controls to ensure system accuracy and compliance
- Provide support and guidance to employees and managers on payroll-related inquiries
- Maintain reporting, documentation, and payroll-related records
- Assist with process improvements and streamline payroll operations
- Support training efforts and onboarding related to payroll processes
- Handle sensitive payroll information with a high level of confidentiality
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience supporting payroll preparation (not full-cycle processing)
- Strong understanding of payroll regulations and compliance requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field
- Prior experience in accounting or payroll-related roles
Preferred Systems & Software Experience
- Payroll and timekeeping systems such as ADP, Workday, Paycom, UKG/Kronos, or Ceridian Dayforce
- HRIS platforms such as Workday, Oracle HCM, or SAP SuccessFactors
- Reporting and data tools such as Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP) and Power BI
- Experience working with integrated payroll systems and automated workflows
