JOB SUMMARY

Specialty Systems, Inc. has an opening for an entry-level Calibration and Metrology Engineer to join our team of technical professionals supporting Government customers and national security mission requirements. In this role, you will support the acquisition, evaluation, and lifecycle management of calibration standards, electronic test equipment, and precision measurement systems used in military and defense operations. 


This entry-level position involves working within Government and laboratory environments while assisting with acquisition planning, market research, technical evaluations, and procurement documentation activities. As a member of the Specialty Systems team, you will directly contribute to mission readiness by supporting acquisition strategies and technical requirements for critical calibration and test equipment programs. 


This position is located at our customer site location. In this position, you will work our customer’s Compressed Work Schedule which consists of working four 9-hour days (M-Th) and an 8-hour day (F) for the first week of a cycle followed by four 9-hour days (M-Th) and being off on the second Friday for the second week of a cycle. This results in a 3-day weekend every other week!

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

    Assist senior engineers in evaluating electronic systems, calibration standards, and precision test equipment to support DoW acquisition decisions. Conduct market research to identify commercially available products and technologies that satisfy technical and mission requirements. Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, datasheets, and vendor documentation. Develop procurement packages, technical reports, and acquisition documentation. Assist with technical trade studies, product comparisons, and cost estimates. Participate in engineering reviews, meetings, and acquisition planning activities. Coordinate with engineering teams to collect and analyze technical information. Prepare reports, presentations, and technical briefings. Maintain engineering documentation supporting procurement, configuration management, and lifecycle management activities. Support equipment demonstrations and evaluations. Apply DoW acquisition processes, engineering standards, and business practices under the guidance of experienced mentors. Contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives that enhance mission efficiency and readiness. 


QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications Include:

    Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (EET). 0–3 years of professional engineering experience (internships, co-ops, and relevant academic projects are applicable). Strong understanding of electrical and electronic engineering fundamentals and the scientific principles that support modern electronic systems. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams. Self-motivated with a willingness to learn new technologies, DoW acquisition processes, and engineering business practices. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government SECRET security clearance. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

    Internship, co-op, or academic project experience involving electronic systems, instrumentation, test equipment, or manufacturing. Familiarity with market research, product sourcing, evaluations, or cost estimating. Exposure to engineering project management, procurement, supply chain, or Government contracting environments. Experience presenting technical information through classroom projects, internships, or engineering organizations. Demonstrated leadership through senior design projects, engineering clubs, internships, or extracurricular activities. Familiarity with engineering software such as MATLAB, LTspice, Multisim, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar engineering tools. Experience reviewing contractor technical deliverables and compliance documentation
