The University of Pittsburgh is seeking an Assistant Director of Broadcast Engineering who will be responsible for providing broadcast engineering support during ACC Network broadcasts and scoreboard productions. Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) broadcast engineering during ACC Network events, in-venue scoreboard productions, and assisting with future technology and system design. Expertise in video production equipment and broadcast infrastructure/signal flow is required. The individual must be able to perform equipment repairs and maintenance and work with the Athletic Department’s IT staff to effectively manage local networks across multiple control rooms and venues. The individual will need to work independently and manage equipment and freelance budget. The individual must be willing to travel as needed.


Job Summary

Manages and serves as a primary contact for the production of athletic broadcasts. Serves as a lead broadcast producer, directs freelance staff, and creates or assists in production of live or pre-taped content. Oversees budgets and prepares related financial reports. Serves as liaison between internal and external stakeholders regarding logistics and coverage of events requiring video or audio. Maintains and operates equipment.


Essential Functions

Manage Pitt Studios internal broadcast infrastructure. Routing and management of 2110 video and signals and associated equipment. Programming, management, and maintenance of network switches required to maintain functionality across Athletics venues and Pitt Studios Technical Operations Center. Manages technical production of national University Athletic broadcasts on the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Network, serves as contact for ESPN. Serves as a lead Engineer in Charge (EIC) for broadcast productions, assists in live production of scoreboard events. Creates and assists in the production of live or pre-taped video content for broadcasts, post-produced shows, and video features. Prepares budgetary reports as needed/directed. Maintains, operates, and troubleshoots broadcast control room equipment, including broadcast character generators, replay systems, production switchers, and other applicable technology. Acts as logistical liaison for the University, athletic department, and special events requiring video or audio. Collaborates effectively with staff, coaches, marketing and media relations staff, and across departments.


Physical Effort

The position requires a great deal of physical effort. Position will be required to lift heavy production equipment, individual should be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. In addition, candidate should be able to perform these tasks in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
