DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:

The University of Pittsburgh in the Department of Pathology, Division of Translational Pathology

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

Provide expert diagnostic evaluation of biopsy and resection specimens in a high-volume clinical service dedicated to gastrointestinal and pancreatobiliary pathology, including intraoperative consultation and molecular test interpretation.

Direct and expand a CLIA/CAP-certified molecular diagnostics laboratory developing and validating next-generation sequencing assays and companion diagnostics for gastrointestinal and pancreatobiliary malignancies.

Lead translational research programs integrating genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic platforms to advance cancer classification, early detection, and precision oncology.

Pursue and maintain independent extramural funding through NIH, NCI, and foundation mechanisms in support of laboratory and clinical research programs.

Serve as Vice Chair of Translational Research within the Department of Pathology, providing strategic oversight and coordination across basic science, clinical, and translational teams.

Represent the department and division on institutional committees and NCI-designated cancer center working groups at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, including participation in disease-specific multidisciplinary programs.

Establish and steward collaborations with national and international academic institutions, consortium networks, and industry partners for sponsored research and co-development agreements.

Mentor and develop junior faculty, fellows, residents, and graduate students in translational research methodology, grant writing, and academic career development.

Contribute to faculty recruitment initiatives targeting physician-scientists and research-focused pathologists aligned with the division's strategic priorities.

Participate in graduate and medical education through didactic teaching, curriculum development, and trainee supervision.

Qualifications: Candidates with MD/DO and/or PhD in relevant fields that are Board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with experience. The individual will be a full-time faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
