Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Structural Welder to support the fabrication of large, complex weldments in a heavy fabrication environment. This is not typical beam-and-column structural steel work—our projects involve precision-built assemblies, thicker materials, and multi-pass welding performed to AWS D1.1 standards.
This role is ideal for a welder with strong technical ability, attention to detail, and experience producing high-quality structural welds on demanding projects. We offer a consistent workflow with opportunities to work on more complex and specialized fabrications.
Work Environment & Scope
- Heavy fabrication shop focused on large, multi-component weldments
- Primary processes include GMAW and FCAW on carbon steel
- Fabrication of frames, fixtures, support structures, and custom assemblies
- Projects support industrial and aerospace-related applications
- Work performed to AWS D1.1 standards, with emphasis on weld quality, fit-up, and dimensional accuracy
- Consistent workload with opportunities for overtime
Key Responsibilities
- Lay out, position, and fit large components and assemblies using appropriate measuring tools and fixtures
- Perform structural welding in accordance with AWS D1.1, including fillet, groove, CJP, and PJP welds
- Execute multi-pass welds on thick materials and large weldments
- Weld in all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead)
- Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings accurately
- Cut, prepare, and fit materials using saws, torches, and grinders
- Set up and adjust welding equipment to achieve proper weld quality and performance
- Perform self-inspection to ensure weld quality and adherence to specifications
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company standards
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of structural welding experience; AWS D1.1 experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience with large weldments or heavy fabricated assemblies
- Ability to perform multi-pass welds on thicker materials
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and weld symbols
- Solid understanding of fit-up, layout, and fabrication practices
- Familiarity with AWS D1.1 visual inspection criteria
- Welding certifications (3G/4G) are a plus
- Reliable, safety-focused, and quality-driven
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods
- Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, and overhead work
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs regularly
