Summary 

The Credit Relations Manager carries out the Loan Collections and Charge-Off Policy, Loan Workout and Nonaccrual Policy and all of collection’s procedures designed to maintain effective control over the assets of the Credit Union. The primary functions of the Credit Relations Manager is to resolve account delinquencies; minimize the loss to the Credit Union; provide accurate reports and analysis to senior management and the Board of Directors and, manage and develop the staff. The position must also meet department and Credit Union objectives and goals.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent member service to members, business associates and staff.
  • Ensure proficiency in all applicable laws and regulations (Reg. B, Reg. Z, Fair Debt Collections Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Uniform Commercial Code and Bankruptcy Code.)
  • Understand and abide by the Consumer Lending Policy, Indirect Lending Policy, Overdraft Protection Service Policy, Real Estate Lending Policy, and all applicable standard operating procedures (SOPs). 
  • Have a working knowledge of Loan Workout and Nonaccrual Policy; Loan Collection and Charge Off Policy; and Overdraft Protection Services Policy.
  • Oversee the management of the credit relations staff in a manner that will emulate RGCU’s core values and contribute to the success of the credit union’s goals and objectives. emphasize employee development through coaching, training, workforce engagement, clear performance expectations, performance measurement, and career progression. Oversee key metrics related to delinquency and productivity. Examine and standardize procedures to improve efficiency
  • Manage and report all recoveries to charged-off loan and deposit accounts. 
  • Oversee the process of preparing and filing of required documentation on bankrupt accounts, accounts for legal suit, repossessions and foreclosures. Prepare applicable reports, work with legal counsel, represent the Credit Union in legal proceedings and assure retention of all required documentation.
  • Oversee the tracking and monitoring of all repossessed assets, assuring the accuracy of communications, legal actions and disposition. Oversee timely and cost-effective disposal of these assets. Utilize proven advertising mediums for their disposal, which minimizes the Credit Union’s loss.
  • Ensure all federal and state laws and statutes are complied with, when collecting, repossessing, or in any area in the Credit Relations Department.
  •  Oversee the production of monthly reports for Senior Management and Volunteers.
  • Schedule and facilitate monthly charge-off meetings. Oversee the Collateral Protection Insurance (CPI) process and ensure the program is performing effectively and meeting expectations.
  • Oversee the process of working charged-off accounts through in-house or outsourced collection channels.
  • Assist with managing Periodic Overdraft Protection Service (POPS). 
  • Review recommendations from the Credit Relations Assistant Manager for all charge-offs occurring periodically and all month end loan and share charge-offs. 
  • Coordinate the timely updating, publishing and maintenance of SOPs relating to the Credit Relations department.
  • Ensure the Credit Relations department operates within budget.
  • Assist members in specialized areas of need, applying professionalism and effective tools of communication, including negotiation and persuasion. 
  • Perform related follow-up tasks to assure problem resolution and member satisfaction.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience  

 Experience- 2 to 5 years related experience.

 Education- 4-year college degree or specialized course of study OR 5 years related experience.


Physical, Mental and Working Requirements

This position requires the ability to perform primarily sedentary office work, operate standard office equipment, and use a computer for extended periods. Must be able to communicate effectively, follow instructions, manage multiple priorities, and maintain professionalism under deadlines. Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment. Occasional extended hours or off-site travel may be required. Regular attendance and the ability to handle confidential information are essential.
