Heavy Equipment Operator – Stormwater Construction & Maintenance

Compensation: $24 Hourly

Minimum Level of Education
High School/GED
Preferred Level of Education
2 Year Degree (AA, AS, etc.)
Skills
2+ years operating excavators, skid steers, mini excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, hydraulic dredges, or similar heavy equipment. Experience with excavation, grading, erosion control, drainage, or utility construction. Experience installing storm drainage systems, culverts, HDPE pipe, RCP pipe, or catch basins. Experience repairing or constructing stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs). Ability to read blueprints, grade stakes, site plans, and construction drawings. Knowledge of grading, drainage, and proper water flow management. Experience operating laser levels or GPS grade-control equipment. Ability to safely tow and maneuver equipment trailers. Basic diesel and gasoline equipment maintenance and troubleshooting experience. Experience using chainsaws, compactors, pumps, and other construction equipment. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Experience working around utilities and underground infrastructure. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to lead or mentor less experienced crew members. Strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork.

Our projects are located throughout Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Kentucky, with our headquarters in Thomasville, NC.

  • Operate excavators, skid steers, hydraulic dredges, and other heavy equipment
  • Perform excavation, grading, dredging, erosion repairs, and pipe installation
  • Maintain and repair stormwater control measures
  • Organize job sites and prepare materials, tools, and equipment
  • Work closely with your team to complete projects safely, on time, and within budget
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and assist with maintenance when needed
  • 2+ years of heavy equipment operating experience, preferably in excavation, grading, landscaping, construction, or stormwater maintenance
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to safely drive a truck while towing a 16–24-foot trailer
  • Ability to lift up to 80 pounds and work on your feet for extended periods
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on uneven terrain
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to safety and producing high-quality work

What You'll Do
