JOB SUMMARY

Specialty Systems, Inc. has an opening for an entry-level Calibration and Metrology Engineer to join our team of technical professionals supporting Government customers and national security mission requirements. In this role, you will support the acquisition, evaluation, and lifecycle management of calibration standards, electronic test equipment, and precision measurement systems used in military and defense operations.


This entry-level position involves working within Government and laboratory environments while assisting with acquisition planning, market research, technical evaluations, and procurement documentation activities. As a member of the Specialty Systems team, you will directly contribute to mission readiness by supporting acquisition strategies and technical requirements for critical calibration and test equipment programs.


This position is located at our customer site location. In this position, you will work our customer’s Compressed Work Schedule which consists of working four 9-hour days (M-Th) and an 8-hour day (F) for the first week of a cycle followed by four 9-hour days (M-Th) and being off on the second Friday for the second week of a cycle. This results in a 3-day weekend every other week!

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze technical specifications and procurement documentation to ensure minimum technical requirements are met 
  • Perform market research to evaluate commercial availability, technical capabilities, and pricing of calibration standards, instrumentation, and electronic systems 
  • Support acquisition planning and procurement activities for calibration and test equipment programs 
  • Develop and write Statements of Work (SOW) and technical procurement documentation 
  • Prepare Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) documentation and select applicable Data Item Descriptions (DIDs) 
  • Develop Independent Government Cost Estimates (IGCE) in support of acquisition activities 
  • Support Simplified Acquisition Procedure (SAP) and Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) procurement packages 
  • Coordinate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to support acquisition strategies and technical evaluations 
  • Review, edit, and evaluate technical documentation including test reports, repairable parts lists, and contractor deliverables 
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations for both virtual and in-person meetings 
  • Present technical and acquisition-related information to groups of 50 or more personnel 
  • Utilize Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to prepare reports, presentations, and procurement documentation 
  • Support technical discussions related to instrumentation, calibration systems, RF/Microwave systems, and electronic test equipment 
  • Travel up to 20% in support of customer meetings, program reviews, and acquisition activities 

  • QUALIFICATIONS:

    Minimum Qualifications Include:

    • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (BSET) with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
      OR 
    • Associate degree in Electronics, Engineering Technology, Telecommunications, or related technical discipline with a minimum of 5 years of electronics experience, including at least 2 years supporting: 
        Instrumentation 
    • Test & Measurement systems Calibration operations RF/Microwave systems
      OR 
  • Technical School diploma or Military Service School training with a minimum of 10 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: 
      Test & Measurement 
  • Calibration Production testing Troubleshooting electronic circuits and systems RF/Microwave systems 
  • Strong understanding of electronic systems, instrumentation, and calibration processes 
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, engineering documentation, and procurement requirements 
  • Experience supporting technical acquisitions, procurement activities, or engineering documentation 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Experience preparing technical reports, presentations, and procurement documentation 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to work effectively in team-oriented Government and contractor environments 

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Prior military electronics, calibration, or RF/Microwave experience 
    • Experience supporting Government acquisition programs or defense contracting environments 
    • Familiarity with acquisition documentation including: 
        Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs) 
    • Data Item Descriptions (DIDs) Statements of Work (SOWs) Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAPs) Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contracts 
  • Experience performing market research and cost analysis for technical equipment procurements 
  • Background supporting calibration laboratories, instrumentation programs, or electronic maintenance activities 
  • Experience reviewing contractor technical deliverables and compliance documentation 
  • Knowledge of RF/Microwave systems, test equipment, and precision measurement technologies
