Position Summary
Follows safety policies and ensures compliance with OSHA regulations and safety policies. Maintains OSHA logs, inspections, and various other items.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Conduct safety training and education programs, and demonstrate the use of safety equipment
- Maintains OSHA recordkeeping logs and filing system for all the safety-related records/documents
- Act as a liaison between field operations, corporate office, and Safety Management.
- Conduct job-site tours and inspections
- Monitors PPE equipment to maintain the adequate supply needed for the project
- Review, evaluate, and analyze work environments, procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors
- Participate in both customer and TBI safety meetings.
- Investigate accidents to identify causes and to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future
- Investigate the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, and other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance
- Develop and maintain hygiene programs such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, ventilation surveys, and asbestos management plans
- Collaborate with engineers and physicians to institute control and remedial measures for hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions or equipment
- Provide new-employee safety and field orientations, and develop materials for these presentations
- Collect samples of dust, gases, vapors, and other potentially toxic materials for analysis
- Assume additional responsibilities as directed by division and corporate management. Travel as required to attend, but not limited to, meetings, site visits, training, etc.
- Required to complete safety training including but not limited to New Hire Orientation, OSHA 10 training, Pulmonary Fit Testing, and Drug Testing.

Education/Experience
- Five (5) years of experience in a safety role and working knowledge of engineering management and civil construction site safety, with a preference for tunneling experience, including applicable training and certifications.
- Trained in accident prevention and certified as a First Responder in accordance with the U.S. Department of Transportation First Responder National Standard Curriculum.
- Certified as a Construction Health and Safety Technician by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
- Proficient in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
The following physical demands are required to perform the job of Tunnel Operator:
- Ability to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting, standing, or lying down
- Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to the exact position
- Occasional bending, stooping, twisting, crawling, kneeling
- Occasional climbing of ladders
- Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds from ground to waist level
- Occasional repetitive use of powered and non-powered hand tools
- Occasional repetitive use of vibrating hand tools
- Constant repetitive hand, forearm, foot, and leg activities
- Constant sitting
- Repetitive movement of arms, legs, and torso together when the whole body is in motion
- Work in environmental extremes of heat and cold dependent upon job location
- Frequent work in dusty environments
- Frequent work in areas of excessive noise
- Work variable hours including overtime hours as needed
