Payroll Specialist

Robert Half is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist for our client in the education industry in San Diego, California. This role is ideal for a payroll professional with experience processing payroll, maintaining employee records, ensuring compliance, and supporting payroll-related reporting. The ideal candidate is organized, accurate, and comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Process payroll accurately and on schedule for hourly and salaried employees
• Maintain payroll records, deductions, garnishments, and tax withholdings
• Review timesheets and payroll data for accuracy and completeness
• Reconcile payroll reports and assist with payroll-related journal entries
• Respond to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, and payroll processes
• Support compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
• Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing and audit support
• Coordinate with human resources and accounting teams to resolve payroll issues
• Maintain confidentiality of employee and payroll information
• Help improve payroll processes and ensure adherence to internal controls
