Position Description
Employees in this classification provide support in an assigned research laboratory conducting specified phases of research projects. Performs work independently and is responsible for developing new procedures and techniques to be utilized in the laboratory and in experiments, and new applications for standard procedures and techniques. Work is performed under usual laboratory conditions. Some hazards may be present due to use of radioactive, carcinogenic or other potentially harmful substances. Responsibilities also include ensuring overall cleanliness of the laboratory and laboratory equipment, and ordering and maintaining an adequate stock of necessary supplies. May instruct or direct work of subordinate laboratory personnel.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in one of the sciences, or equivalent combination (4 years) of job-related experience and college education. Experience may be substituted for college education on a year for year basis.

Major/Essential Functions
- Maintain appropriate documentation related to all experiments (lab notebook), protocols, equipment, safety requirements, inventory, and orders.
- Ensures overall cleanliness and organization of the laboratory and laboratory equipment.
- Orders and maintains adequate stocks of all necessary supplies and consumables, with PI's approval.
- Order supplies at appropriate times and in adequate quantities to avoid waste.
- Ensures working condition of all essential laboratory equipment, including freezers, fridges, incubators, gas cylinders, liquid nitrogen storage and others as designated by the PI.
- Works to promptly safeguard research resources (cells, samples, and other perishables) in case of malfunction.
- Takes appropriate measures to remediate malfunctions, working with the department's equipment technician.
- Plans, designs and conducts laboratory experiments.
- Summarizes data and assists the PI in data analysis.
- Supervise and aid other research personnel and students in the laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in laboratory studies and the mechanisms of progression of prostatic diseases including benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer.
- B.S. or M.S. in Biology, Biochemistry/Chemistry or Engineering.
- Wet lab research experience.
- Experience and expertise with laboratory techniques used in cell biology and biochemistry research, including isolating extracellular vesicles/exosomes from cells, and working with rodents.
