Procurement Specialist
We are looking for a Procurement Specialist to support purchasing operations for an organization in Portland, Maine. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone who can manage sourcing activities, coordinate purchase orders, and help maintain efficient procurement workflows across the business. The role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment in vendor interactions, and the ability to keep buying activities aligned with operational needs.
Responsibilities:
• Manage day-to-day purchasing activities by preparing, reviewing, and processing purchase orders in a timely manner.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders to understand material and service needs and translate them into effective procurement actions.
• Engage with suppliers to obtain pricing, confirm availability, and support cost-conscious purchasing decisions.
• Maintain accurate procurement records and documentation to ensure visibility across buying activities and contract terms.
• Support contract discussions with vendors by gathering requirements, comparing options, and helping secure favorable commercial terms.
• Monitor purchasing progress and follow up on orders to help prevent delays and maintain continuity of supply.
• Apply established procurement practices and internal guidelines to ensure compliant and consistent buying processes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address purchasing issues, resolve order discrepancies, and improve procurement efficiency.
Qualifications:
• Experience working in corporate procurement or a closely related purchasing function.• Practical knowledge of purchase order management and end-to-end buying procedures.
• Ability to support procurement operations with strong organizational skills and close attention to detail.
• Experience interacting with suppliers and contributing to contract negotiation activities.
• Strong communication skills for working effectively with internal teams and external vendors.
• Proficiency in maintaining accurate records, tracking orders, and managing multiple priorities.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines and business needs.
Compensation
