Assistant Controller

You’ll work closely with executive leadership and cross-functional teams across acquisitions, development, and asset management—gaining exposure well beyond traditional accounting.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead accounting for a diverse portfolio of operating properties, development projects, and joint ventures
- Manage and develop a high-performing accounting team
- Own the close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and strong controls
- Review financials, general ledger activity, and reconciliations across multiple entities
- Play a key role in evaluating transactions including acquisitions, dispositions, and financing activity
- Interpret complex agreements (PSAs, loan docs, leases) and assess financial impact
- Identify risks and implement practical, scalable solutions
- Oversee preparation of property-level and consolidated financial reporting
- Review variance analyses and provide insights into asset performance
- Ensure proper lease accounting and CAM/tax reconciliation accuracy
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term business planning
- Maintain strong internal controls and oversee audit processes (internal, external, and lender)
- Oversee cash management, capital calls, and investor funding processes
- Monitor lender compliance and debt covenants
- Support accounting for active development projects, including draws and cost tracking
- Partner closely with development and asset management teams on project economics and cash flow
- Collaborate with investments, development, leasing, and operations teams
- Contribute to investor and lender reporting
- Play an active role in strategic initiatives and portfolio performance discussions
Qualifications:
- CPA required
- 6–10 years of progressive experience, including commercial real estate accounting
- Strong experience across property, partnership, and development accounting
- Background in public accounting is a plus
- Experience with Yardi or similar real estate systems preferred
- Proven ability to lead teams and operate in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
Compensation
