A well-established manufacturing company in Central New Jersey is seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee its finance and accounting operations. Position Overview
We are looking for a driven Accounting & Finance leader to manage the full financial function of a growing manufacturing business. This individual will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, lead a small team, and partner closely with ownership to provide financial insights, operational guidance, and continuous process improvements. This is a highly visible role with broad responsibility across accounting, reporting, and analysis.
Accounting & Financial Oversight
- Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting
- Lead and actively participate in the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process
- Ensure financial statements are accurate, timely, and compliant with GAAP
- Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal control frameworks
Cost & Inventory Accounting
- Manage cost accounting activities, including inventory valuation, standard costing, and variance analysis
- Partner with operations to evaluate production costs and identify efficiencies
- Monitor inventory levels, reserves, and reconciliation processes to ensure accuracy
Team Leadership
- Supervise and develop a team of 2–4 accounting professionals
- Provide daily direction, manage priorities, and drive accountability across the
- Promote a collaborative, high-performance team culture
Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare and present financial reporting and analysis to ownership
- Deliver insights on financial performance, profitability, and key cost d
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning initiatives
Audit & Compliance
- Act as the primary liaison for external drivers
- Lead the annual audit process and ensure timely completion
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory and reporting requirements
Qualifications:
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a leadership
- Prior experience within a small or mid-sized manufacturing organization
- Strong knowledge of cost and inventory accounting
- Experience with larger ERP systems required such as SAP, NetSuite, or Oracle
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial reporting tools
Leadership & Communication
- Proven ability to lead and develop accounting teams
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills across all organizational levels
- Hands-on, detail-oriented approach with the ability to balance strategic and tactical responsibilities preferred
- CPA designation preferred but not required
Work Environment
- Onsite daily in Mercer County, NJ
