Sr. Accountant

Compensation: $45 to $50 Hourly

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support a government-sector organization in California. This short-term contract (2-3 months) opportunity is ideal for an accounting specialist who can oversee core close activities, strengthen financial accuracy, and help maintain regulatory compliance. The role will contribute to financial reporting, reconciliation work, and audit readiness while partnering with internal stakeholders to keep accounting operations running smoothly.


Responsibilities:

• Lead monthly closing activities, including preparing and posting journal entries and finalizing ledger activity on schedule.

• Reconcile balance sheet and bank accounts, investigate discrepancies, and clear outstanding items with accuracy.

• Analyze budget-to-actual results and help prepare reports that explain financial performance and variances.

• Review accounting records and daily transactions to confirm proper coding, completeness, and adherence to policy.

• Support compliance efforts by applying public sector accounting standards and maintaining effective internal controls.

• Prepare schedules, reports, and supporting documents needed for internal reviews and external audit requests.

• Assist with general ledger maintenance and ensure account activity is properly documented and substantiated.


Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Hands-on experience with month-end close, general ledger activity, and journal entry preparation.
• Strong background in account reconciliations, including balance sheet and bank reconciliations.
• Familiarity with financial reporting and variance analysis.
• Public sector or government accounting experience is preferred.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience working within enterprise accounting systems.

Compensation

$45.00-$50.00 Hourly
