Staff Accountant

Compensation: $80 to $85 Yearly

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support financial operations for nonprofit organizations in New York, New York. This position is responsible for maintaining reliable accounting records, overseeing recurring close activities, and preparing financial information for leadership and governing committees. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in grant accounting, payroll coordination, and financial statement preparation, along with the ability to respond confidently to client inquiries.

Responsibilities:
• Lead the month-end close process and compile accurate financial reports for review by finance committees and boards.
• Prepare clear, timely financial statements and related schedules that support organizational decision-making.
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure accounting records remain complete, organized, and up to date.
• Coordinate bi-monthly payroll activities, verify pay accuracy, and work with the payroll provider to support timely tax filings and payments.
• Address client accounting and finance questions promptly, providing accurate information and practical guidance.
• Monitor nonprofit and grant-related financial activity to ensure proper tracking, reporting, and compliance with funding requirements.
• Support the ongoing administration of accounting and financial systems to promote efficient and reliable operations.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of accounting experience, including staff accountant or similar responsibilities.
• Background in nonprofit accounting with a solid understanding of fund and grant tracking requirements.
• Demonstrated experience preparing financial statements and month-end reporting packages.
• Familiarity with payroll processing and coordination with third-party payroll providers.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial recordkeeping best practices.
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage deadlines and multiple priorities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for working with clients and presenting financial information.

Compensation

$80,000.00-$85,000.00 Yearly
