Pay range for this position is USD $75 to $80 dollar per hour. Pay range for this job level is a general guideline only for States that enforces pay transparency and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, certifications, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.

Position Purpose

  • The main function of the Civil Engineer is to provide support related to construction material testing and geophysical and geotechnical inspections with 5 hours per report max for review. As required, the engineer will be responsible for final approval of civil test reports for compliance with our internal quality program and project specifications prior to submission to the client. The engineer will assure that the work is completed by qualified staff using appropriate equipment meeting the requirements of our NQA -1 quality program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform periodic reconnaissance of the on-site testing laboratory to assure that procedures are in-place and being followed to provide acceptable results.
  • Review test reports and stamp documents to affirm the results are acceptable and compliant with procedure.
  • Review commercial software acquired to support the project for adequacy in producing acceptable and repeatable results.
  • Track the reports to assure they are processed and returned with a one week turnaround or less as specified by the client.
  • Support operational inquires in a timely Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Maintain a strong customer service focus.
  • Enforce and abide the requirements of safe operation and personal safety using required Personal Protective Equipment and
  • Safe Practices per company policy.
  • Perform other job related tasks as assigned by management.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Mentor and train coworkers assigned to you through on the job training in safe work practices, technical skills and compliance with company policy.
  • Ensure a safe, secure, and legal work environment for all staff ensuring all company policies are being followed.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Practical application of Civil/Materials Engineering and or Engineering Science and Technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment of various goods and services.
  • Aware of the properties of and testing of soil, concrete, aggregate, grout, CLSM, and asphalt.
  • Ability to review and interpret project specification and plans for testing requirement.
  • Review procedures for compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, WSDOT and/or ICC test standards,
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, and material, processes.
  • Chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
  • Detail oriented with a dedication to the quality control and quality assurance process; ability to understand and read complex design plans and specifications.
  • Ability to multi-task and properly execute multiple simultaneous assignments without sacrificing efficiency or quality of the work.
  • Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse groups of people.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be capable of developing written work instructions from approved general procedures.
  • Must have working knowledge of MS Office Suite of products
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Basic knowledge of materials and mechanical design.
  • Learn and abide by contract policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate advanced understanding of all geophysics and geotechnical equipment.
  • Be able to demonstrate to clients the methods we employee.
  • Assist with the development of proposals when needed.
  • Assist with the continuous development, operation and maintenance of the geophysical and geotechnical equipment.
  • Performs geophysical investigations with professionalism ensuring that the relationships the company has with existing and potential new accounts are developed and maintained by anticipating the customer’s needs, resolving concerns and
  • complaints.
  • Observe and monitor Technician to ensure proper training.
  • Cleanup work areas and remove debris after activities are complete.
  • Organize materials in order to prepare for use.
  • Ensure that all Company equipment is maintained and secured as required by Company Operational Procedures.
  • Basic Geophysical marketing to existing as well as new clients.
  • Ability to document, and track discrepancies using appropriate software.
  • Build a strong client relationship by resolving customer issues with geophysical software or concept for specific customer solutions.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve less complex technical problems quickly and independently.
  • Complete all required training, including tests, within company guidelines
  • Be proficient with standard computer software (such as MS Word and Excel) and be able to write detailed inspection and shutdown reports while maintaining an organized system of files.

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 5 or more years Mechanical/Materials engineering or related field experience, including projects highly desired.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Certifiicates and Licenses Required

  • Washington State Civil Professional Engineer License.
  • Must meet minimum company requirements to operate a company vehicle and be eligible for coverage under Company insurance program.
