Compensation

The base hourly rate for this position is $23.71.

Job Title: Operator 4 Strapper/Upstacker Operator
Pay: $23.71
Shift: 8am – 8pm

Position Summary

The Strapper/Upstacker Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of packaging and material handling equipment, including strappers, upstackers, and conveyor systems. This role supports production by ensuring finished goods are properly packaged, inspected, and prepared for shipment while maintaining equipment functionality and workplace safety standards.

Physical Requirements

This position involves periodic, non-repetitive manual handling of materials, including lifting weights exceeding 50 pounds. Tasks may require awkward positioning, including bending, twisting, and turning while handling loads. Moderate physical agility and endurance are necessary. The role also requires the ability to climb stairs and respond quickly in emergency situations with accuracy and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Safety and Compliance

  • Perform all job duties in a safe manner, maintaining an accident-free work record.
  • Adhere to all plant and departmental safety rules and follow established Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures.
  • Promptly identify and report unsafe conditions or hazards in the workplace.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance

  • Monitor upstacker operations to prevent and resolve jam-ups; reset counters as required.
  • Install and replace strapping rolls as needed.
  • Adjust strapping equipment based on product size requirements.
  • Clear strapper and conveyor jams in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
  • Perform routine maintenance, including cleaning equipment with compressed air and maintaining electronic sensors (e.g., photo eyes).
  • Set and adjust upstacker control panels for proper stacking sequences.
  • Report equipment malfunctions promptly to the Dry End Crew Leader or Supervisor.

Production and Material Handling

  • Operate conveyors using manual controls to maintain proper product flow to the bundle strapper.
  • Use a forklift (when required and authorized) to assist with long board equipment and material handling operations.
  • Conduct pre-operation inspections of forklifts using designated checklists.
  • Manually strap loads to bunks or strips as required.
  • Assist with product quality control by identifying and removing defective or non-conforming materials.

Operational Support

  • Collaborate with inspectors and team members to maintain product quality standards.
  • Complete operational and production reports as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work environment in accordance with housekeeping schedules, including sweeping and general maintenance tasks.
  • Provide on-the-job training and guidance to new or less experienced employees when needed.
  • Support additional production line duties as assigned.
