Position Summary: 

The Digital Content Specialist reports to the Director of Communications and leads the development and execution of Port Tampa Bay’s digital communications strategy. This position is responsible for creating engaging social media content, managing digital platforms, and fostering audience engagement to advance the Port’s brand and strategic priorities. The role translates complex maritime, economic, and operational information into clear, compelling digital storytelling and supports broader communications efforts through website content, digital campaigns, and media-related materials. The Digital Content Specialist helps ensure consistent, timely, and effective messaging across all digital channels.


Essential Functions & Duties: 

· Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with Port Tampa Bay’s brand, priorities and strategic objectives.

· Create, curate and publish engaging, platform-specific content across Port Tampa Bay’s social media channels.

· Monitor social media performance, analytics and trends; prepare reports and make data-informed recommendations to improve reach and engagement.

· Manage content calendars and coordinate digital campaigns in collaboration with internal departments and external partners.

· Draft and edit digital content, including website copy, blog-style storytelling, executive social posts and occasional press releases.

· Support crisis communications and time-sensitive messaging through digital platforms, as directed.

· Ensure consistency in tone, voice and messaging across all digital communications.

· Stay current on emerging digital platforms, tools and best practices relevant to public-sector communications.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.


Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

· Strong knowledge of social media platforms, content strategy and digital analytics.

· Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for multiple audiences and platforms.

· Ability to translate technical or complex subject matter into accessible, engaging digital content.

· Working knowledge of website content management systems and basic digital publishing workflows.

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

· Must have high competency level on computer and software skills compatible with proficiency in full Microsoft Office suite, especially with Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

· Must be able to develop and maintain a working-level understanding of the maritime industry, company culture, PTB’s products/services as well as its tenants’ products/services and PTB’s strategic communication plan.

· Must exhibit professional conduct within and outside office while conducting port business.

· Skilled in using and reasoning to identify complex problems and evaluate and implement alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches. 

· Ability to use discretion and independent judgment in evaluating information. 

· Ability to interact effectively, confidently, and professionally with PTB officials and employees, other government officials, PTB tenants and the general public. 

· Ability to maintain files and records and prepare reports and correspondence. 

· Ability to follow oral and written instructions. 

· Must possess honesty, integrity and sound professional judgment. 

· Must be able to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, to support events, campaigns or time-sensitive communications.

· Ability to maintain professionalism and accuracy in high-visibility or fast-moving situations.



Minimum Training & Experience Requirements

Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or a related field from an accredited college or university. Three or more years of experience performing duties directly related to the position. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered. Photography, videography, and content editing skills are preferred. 


Special Requirements

Incumbent must possess a current and valid Florida Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or capable of obtaining one within thirty days from the date of hire. Must successfully pass a seaport security background check and compliance for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
 

Work Environment:

· This job operates in a professional office environment. 

· Occasional travel to Port facilities, meetings, and community events is required.

· Regular interaction with employees at all organizational levels, as well as community stakeholders and local partners.

· Work is typically performed in a moderate-noise office setting.

· Routine exposure to standard office equipment and materials, including printers, copiers, toner, and paper.

· Requires the ability to move between office locations and Port facilities as needed.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. 


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
 

Travel:

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
