Senior AP Specialist

Birmingham, AL 35210, US Remote Full Time
Compensation: $55 to $60 Yearly

Robert Half is partnering with a growing Birmingham-based organization to identify an Accounts Payable Specialist to join their accounting team. This is a fully remote opportunity offering flexibility and work-life balance, but candidates must live within commuting distance of Birmingham to handle occasional check runs, bank deposits, and mail pickups in Irondale. Office space is available if desired.


The company is seeking an experienced professional who can take ownership of the full accounts payable process, think critically, identify opportunities for improvement, and serve as a key contributor within a collaborative accounting team.


What You'll Do

  • Manage the full accounts payable cycle for multiple entities operating within a shared general ledger environment
  • Onboard vendors and maintain vendor records
  • Review, code, and process a high volume of invoices
  • Manage purchase orders and purchasing activities within the AP system
  • Process weekly payments, including checks and electronic payments
  • Support month-end close activities, including expense accruals
  • Prepare and manage annual 1099 reporting
  • Analyze expenses, investigate unusual transactions, and identify trends
  • Assist with process improvements and workflow efficiencies within AP
  • Make occasional trips to the Irondale office for check runs, bank deposits, and mail retrieval

Qualifications:

  • Experience managing the full AP cycle in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Experience working with purchasing and purchase orders within an integrated AP system
  • Understanding of multi-entity accounting and the ability to accurately separate activity by company, branch, or division
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort managing a high volume of vendor communication
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset with the ability to question and analyze transactions rather than simply process them
  • Accounting degree preferred but not required
  • Experience in a growing or acquisition-focused organization is a plus



Compensation

$55,000.00-$60,000.00 Yearly
