Controller
We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Interim Controller to support a North Hills-based organization during a critical period of financial review and process improvement. This role's primary focus will be ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of the company's financial records while helping clean up historical accounting issues and strengthen financial reporting processes.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative accounting leader who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, identifying discrepancies, reconciling complex accounts, and implementing best practices to improve the overall financial close and reporting function.
Responsibilities
- Review, analyze, and clean up financial records to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and resolve outstanding discrepancies
- Evaluate accounting processes and implement improvements to strengthen internal controls
- Oversee month-end and year-end close activities
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
- Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules
- Analyze financial transactions and investigate variances
- Maintain accurate general ledger activity and account reconciliations
- Serve as the primary contact for external auditors and assist with audit preparation
- Support regulatory, tax, and government compliance requirements
- Collaborate with leadership to provide financial insights and reporting
- Mentor and support accounting staff as needed
Qualifications:
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including Controller or Assistant Controller responsibilities
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- CPA preferred
- Experience leading accounting clean-up efforts, reconciliations, and process improvements
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with accounting/ERP systems
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and quickly assess financial issues
This is an onsite opportunity in the North Hills of Pittsburgh and is expected to begin on a contract basis, with the potential to transition into a permanent role based on performance and business needs.
