Staff Accountant

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a team in Ithaca, New York in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This position supports core accounting operations by handling daily financial activity, contributing to the monthly close cycle, and helping maintain accurate records across the ledger. The ideal candidate brings a solid understanding of accounting fundamentals, works carefully with transactional data, and collaborates effectively to keep reporting and payment activity on schedule.

Responsibilities:
• Manage payment processing activities and coordinate banking transactions to support accurate cash-related operations.
• Contribute to month-end close tasks by preparing supporting schedules and assisting with timely financial reporting.
• Maintain the general ledger by reviewing account activity and keeping financial records current and organized.
• Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, to ensure complete and accurate monthly accounting records.
• Process a moderate volume of invoices each month while monitoring accuracy, coding, and timely handling.
• Review financial transactions for completeness and resolve discrepancies to help maintain dependable accounting data.
• Partner with colleagues across the team to meet deadlines and support day-to-day accounting operations.
• Assist with tax-related accounting support, including activities connected to corporate tax and sales tax records when needed.

Qualifications:

• Foundational knowledge of accounting principles and standard financial processes.
• Associate’s degree in Accounting preferred, or comparable practical accounting experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, with strong working ability in Excel.
• Experience working with journal entries and general ledger maintenance.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while staying organized and meeting deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
• Collaborative, dependable approach with a positive mindset in a team-oriented environment.

Compensation

$21.38-$24.75 Hourly
