Your Mission:
The Laser Tracker Technician Lead serves as the primary technical resource for laser tracking and portable metrology activities. This role provides day-to-day guidance, coordination, and technical direction to Laser Tracker Operators while actively performing advanced measurement, alignment, and dimensional control work. The Lead ensures projects are executed efficiently, consistently, and in accordance with established metrology standards. This position does not have formal supervisory responsibilities but is expected to lead by expertise, influence, and example.
Explore the Depth of the Role:
- Coordinate daily laser tracking activities and prioritize work assignments in support of production, quality, engineering, and customer requirements.
- Lead dimensional inspection, alignment, tooling verification, and large-scale measurement projects.
- Perform advanced laser tracker setup, operation, and data collection using portable metrology systems.
- Develop and execute measurement plans, inspection strategies, and alignment methodologies.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements.
- Conduct deviation analysis, root cause investigations, and support corrective actions for dimensional nonconformances.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Laser Tracker Operators I, II, and III.
- Assist with onboarding and skills development of new metrology personnel.
- Coordinate multi-tracker projects and complex measurement activities.
- Review inspection data, reports, and measurement results for accuracy and completeness.
- Interface with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and customer representatives to resolve dimensional issues and support project objectives.
- Support development, implementation, and continuous improvement of metrology procedures, work instructions, and best practices.
- Troubleshoot equipment, software, and measurement-related challenges.
- Maintain equipment calibration records and ensure proper care and utilization of metrology assets.
- Support customer audits, technical reviews, and field operations as required.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for laser tracking activities on assigned projects.
- Promotes consistency, quality, and adherence to metrology standards.
- Leads by example through technical expertise, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Other related duties as assigned by Manager.
Requirements:
Mission Readiness:
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree or technical certification preferred.
- CMS Level 2 Certification.
- 5+ years of laser tracker, portable metrology, or dimensional inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Advanced knowledge of laser tracker systems, alignment methodologies, and dimensional control processes.
- Experience with metrology software and data analysis tools.
- Experience supporting large-scale manufacturing, assembly, aerospace, defense, energy, or industrial projects preferred.
- Strong understanding and application of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and engineering drawings.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects, coordinate work activities, and mentor technical personnel.
- Ability to travel and support customer or field operations as required.
Travel Requirements:
- Between SE locations as needed
Physical Requirements:
- May be required to stand, walk, sit, reach/pull/push with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel regularly.?
- May lift or carry 50lbs. Weights exceeding 50lbs will require mechanical means to maneuver.?
